How does this calculator work?

Regular deposits add to your balance while compounding grows the accumulated amount. Compare different deposit amounts, terms and return assumptions.

The formula

Balance = P(1+r)^n + D × ((1+r)^n − 1) ÷ r; deposit D is made at the end of each month.

What should you know?

  • Deposits are made at the end of each month and returns compound monthly.
  • Excludes inflation, fees and taxes. Future returns are not guaranteed.

Common questions

What happens with a zero return?

The final balance equals the initial amount plus all monthly deposits.

Would deposits at the beginning of each month give the same result?

No. A beginning-of-month deposit earns one extra month of return compared with this calculator’s assumption.
